Editorial design and layout for 3D Artist magazine.

Client: IMAGINE PUBLISHING
Services: EDITORIAL DESIGN

The Experience

In 2015, I joined Imagine Publishing in Bournemouth, UK, as a designer for 3D Artist — one of the world’s leading magazines dedicated to digital art, CGI, and visual effects. The publication reached readers across North America, Australia, and Europe, competing on international newsstands alongside the biggest creative titles.

At that time, 3D Artist stood as a benchmark for quality and innovation within the global 3D design community. It was a vital source of insight, technique, and inspiration for professionals and enthusiasts working in film, gaming, and digital media.

The Role

Working as part of a dedicated editorial team, I created layouts and cover designs in close collaboration with the Chief Editor, following the visual direction set by the Editorial Director and Head of Design. My responsibilities included developing engaging editorial compositions, refining visual hierarchy, and ensuring each spread communicated technical content in a visually compelling way.

This role required precision, speed, and adaptability — delivering print-ready materials under tight publishing schedules while maintaining high production standards and consistent brand aesthetics.

The Impact

Each issue of 3D Artist featured exclusive insights from leading independent digital artists around the world. On special occasions, we collaborated directly with major studios such as Lucasfilm and Pixar, who created original content and tutorials exclusively for our publication — a remarkable distinction within the industry.

The experience gave me a deep appreciation for editorial collaboration and storytelling through design. It taught me how effective layout and visual flow can enhance understanding, inspire creativity, and strengthen a publication’s voice on the global stage.
